It is the time of the year when Selma is picking up all the mud while taken to her daily walk. What is Selma dreaming of? She is most likely dreaming of sunny days on the beach. Instead of picking up all the mud how about picking up functional React programming?
In spring 2020 we conducted a series of on-line React programming learning sessions for Finnish speakers and will continue the habit English. You can check the recordings for the 2020 sessions here in order to find more details of the content that we will be delivering.
Starting on Monday 2nd of May we will get together and start our React journey in English with the total of 8 learning sessions. The sessions will be held on Mondays at 10.00-12.00 and Fridays at 10.00-12.00 to explore the exciting World of UI development for the web with up-to-date paradigms and tools. Mondays are dedicated for theory and Fridays are dedicated to check how the participants have managed their weekly programming tasks. Every Monday you can set your objectives for what you want to present to the other members of the group on Friday the same week. The last session will be held on the 27th of May. By the end of May we should have a basic understanding of how to author small user interface components by functional React.
Here are some examples of what we did in 2020: A free training event – Integrating minimax algorithm to a simple React-based tictactoe game (NP-complete -like problem).
Prerequisites
In order to get most out of the learning sessions you should be able to write simple programs and organize your code into somewhat meaningful units (functions in this case) with JavaScript or equivalent language. You do not need to know all things React, we will be installing all required components for React development during our first meeting. During the first meeting we will learn to set up Visual Studio Code development environment, to launch a simple React application, run it in a web browser and make modifications to the code and launch it again (typical debug cycle). You can find more information here https://reactjs.org/docs/getting-started.html and here https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/nodejs/reactjs-tutorial.
A maximum of 10 students can join the Fun in the order of registration. Just like in previous years we will be recording all sessions, so they can be watched later at Youtube. You can find more content and previous sessions (in Finnish) on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCax4Bm139Meksaq3hlZHquQ.
Please register no later than 1st of May 2022 by email at juuso.vuorinen@ideallearning.fi. Once we get a minimum of 5 registrants we will get going!
Best Regards,
Selma and the rest of the team
